OMSF is DIT’s structured framework for grading how open an AI model really is. It answers a question that the phrase “open source AI” often blurs: can you actually inspect it, run it, modify it, and ship it without asking anyone’s permission?
The heart of OMSF is the six-rung Openness Ladder, which scores a model on weights, code, training data, license terms, documentation and deployment freedom. A model can be freely downloadable yet still locked by its license — the Ladder makes that visible at a glance.
